I was trained in microbiology and obtained my PhD in 1979 before transitioning into molecular biology and biotechnology. My research has focused on transglycosylation enzymes involved in microbial carbohydrate synthesis and modification, as well as the protein structural features that determine enzyme reaction and product specificity. I have extensive experience in novel enzyme characterization, including enzyme engineering and protein 3D structural analysis. Throughout my career, I have made significant contributions to the field of starch-, sucrose-, and lactose-acting enzymes.
